Oxford & District Table Tennis Association
ODTTA INVITATION TOURNAMENT
MAY 22, 2011

Jingyu Sun (Vikings) successfully defended his title of Men's champion, winning the Oxford Mail Cup (Men’s Singles) by beating Andy Misseldine (Kidlington Forum) 11-9, 15-13, 11-9. The championships, held again at the Exeter Close Pavilion, Kidlington, witnessed a rerun of last year's final. Misseldine was in great form, but found Sun just as resilient as last year and this time failed to take a game off Oxford's top, and still rapidly improving, player. Misseldine earned his place in the final by beating Karl Bushell (Forum), while Sun saw off a tough challenge by Tony Gorman (Bicester).
Dawn Pearce (Begbroke) rolled back the years to win the Ladies Singles (the Chandler Cup) once again, and the mixed doubles with Pavel Jaskolski (Vikings). Pearce was leading lady in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Pearce beat Joyce Witney (Vikings) in the semi-finals, then Sharon Curtis (Holton) in the final. Curtis earned her place in the final by beating Lianne Fisher (Vikings) 14-12 in the deciding game of a desperately close battle. With Jaskolski, Pearce beat Witney and Andy McColgan (British Rail), then Fisher and Sun in the final. Fisher and Sun beat Curtis and Roel Dullens (Vikings) to get to the final.
The Men's Doubles (President's Cup) produced a quality final that saw Mark Scott (Vikings) and Misseldine beating Tony Stead (Rutherford) and Alan Cherry (Vikings). In the semis, Scott and Misseldine survived a tremendous battle against Bushell and Andrew Flint (Forum), while Stead and Cherry saw off Glen Freeman (Rutherford) and Vincent Yang (Vikings).
The Veteran's Singles competition again featured Misseldine and Bushell in the final, but this turned out to be Misseldine's year. Bushell got to the final by beating Stead, and Misseldine beat Cherry. Last year it was a fairly comfortable three straight victory to Bushell, but there was nothing comfortable about this year. Four desperately close games were shared, then Misseldine took the decider 11-9 to win this title for the first time.
